What's A Prayer Mentor?

Prayer Mentor

A prayer mentor is an adult, 21 years or older,  who makes a commitment to lift a daily prayer shout for and to encourage a particular student from his or her church until the student graduates from college or is married.

  • A prayer mentor is not a "face to face" discipler of a student, although he or she may be.
  • A prayer mentor is not a "super-Christian" or "mighty-person-of-prayer"--just a regular person who is growing in his or her relationship with Christ.
  • A prayer mentor is one, of a whole network of people, who makes a specific contribution to a student's growth and development in Christ.
  • A prayer mentor keeps his or her student covered in prayer every day and offers words of encouragement from time to time.
  • A prayer mentor's relationship with a student grows as the prayer mentor is faithful month after month and year after year to provide prayer support and encouragement to his or her student.
  • A prayer mentor brings the power of God into a student's life in ways he or she may never know simply by getting better and better at prayer.

To understand the heartbeat of prayer mentoring, listen to Coretha Nichols as she talks about praying for Sophia.

"As I started praying for Sophia, God put such a love in my heart...."
